Signs Of Low Progesterone

Recently we discussed how the hormone progesterone is beneficial for whole body health, not just menstrual health and fertility.

Today let’s explore some common signs of low progesterone and some key ways to know if your progesterone may be needing extra TLC.

Some signs of low progesterone can include:

  • Short menstrual cycles (25 days or less)

  • premenstrual spotting

  • Short luteal phase (11 days or less)

  • Low luteal phase temps on BBT chart

  • History of pregnancy loss/recurrent pregnancy loss

  • Heavy menstrual bleeding

  • Period pain

  • PMS: breast tenderness, fluid retention, headaches, mood swings

  • Anxiety

  • Insomnia/difficulty falling or staying asleep

(This isn’t an exhaustive list - there’s more!)

Whilst getting a blood test to see your progesterone levels can be incredibly valuable, my personal preference is to see how your progesterone is behaving over the course of the whole luteal phase (not just one day), and this can be done via charting your BBT!
